Ghana First Supporters Union have emerged winners of the 2017 Ghana-Nigeria Sports Tournament.
They defeated Royal Rangers FC in the football competition and went home with 500Ghc, a Trophy, medals, souvenirs and packs of Acada Magazine.
Royal Rangers FC who came second went home with the sum of 300Ghc, Footballs, Souvenirs and packs of Acada Magazine.
The event which had its theme as “Uniting Ghanaian and Nigerian Youths Through Sports” saw massive participation in different sporting activities like football,Table Tennis, chess, Scrabble and 100 meters.
The winners from these other sporting activities got medals and cash reward.
Comrade Barry Ndu Nwaihim, the Coordinator of the Ghana Nigeria Sports Tournament while speaking to our correspondents expressed so much joy and gratitude to God for making this year’s event a huge success.
He commended individuals who supported their organization to ensure the event went well.
He reiterated his optimism that events of such nature would continuously promote unity and love among citizens of the two countries.
He congratulated the winners while urging them to remain Ambassadors of peace and do everything within their capacity to spread the message of love noting that Ghanaian and Nigerian citizens should always see themselves as one people.
Comrade Barry Ndu used the opportunity offered by the 2017 Ghana-Nigeria Sports Tournament to call on Government, companies and private individuals to always support such initiatives that unites people.
He specifically asked the Government of the two countries to set aside funding aimed at supporting young people with great ideas targeted at building a positive bilateral relationship with other countries.
He advised Nigerians in Ghana to remain peaceful and focused as they pursue their vision in Ghana.
Asked the motivation behind this initiative, he explained that their passion as on Organization is to see citizens of these two countries living in peace devoid of acrimony and unnecessary bickering.
He noted that West Africa and indeed Africa can become the giant of the world if resources and intellectual content available are properly utilized.
Nana Ama Baiden, Secretary of the planning committee commended the display of maturity by the participants and thanked those who didn’t win the overall Trophy and prize money for their understanding.
She acknowledged the need to continuously organize such initiatives that brings citizens of the two countries together stating that if Ghana and Nigeria can channel their resources in a positive way, the attendant economic development would be beneficial to citizens.
She appreciated the scouts who came to watch and monitor the games and urged those who would be eventually picked to remain good Ambassadors.
She remained enthusiastic that next year edition would be more successful with an increase in the prize money.
Eze Kennedy Ginikanwa Obi, King of Nigerians in La Nkwantang, Madina, Adenta and Ga East Municipalities in his message before the event profusely thanked the organizers for such laudable initiative.
He particularly singled out the Coordinator for his passion and consistency over the years.
He said that the vision has been sustained because of his positive intention , drive and ability to carry his team along.
He assured organizers of his continuous support at all times and hoped the essence and positive reason behind of the event would come to fruition.
Hon. Fred Elabor joined the representative of Ghana’s Deputy Minister for youth and sports to kick off the finals. During the Trophy presentation, copies of Acada Magazine were also given to all participants.
All the players in an interview were excited being part of the event .They all commended the organizers for initiating such concept aimed at promoting the positive side of Ghana and Nigeria.
In all, the 2017 Ghana-Nigeria Sports Tournament was a hugely successful event as Organizers look forward to the 2018 edition.
