A man caught with heads and other human parts in Ogun State was Thursday taken into custody be the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police.
He was arrested by vigilante motor park boys who suspected his motive at Mowe area of the state.
According to findings by The Street Reporters, the man had gone to the park to board a car, but asked the driver to convey only him to his designation.
Being a suburb, where car hire was rare, the driver who sensed that something was amiss, told the suspect that he should wait to enable him take permission from the motor park officials.
When the officials ordered him to open the sack containing the human parts, the content was discovered to be human head and body parts.
The commotion that ensued attracted a large number of residents who nearly lynched before the police rescued him.
Some residents said the man was arrested with five human heads, while others said he was in possession of seven human heads.
However, the man, who was beaten up by the mob, before he was taken to Mowe Police Station, told the police that the body parts were from a corpse he exhumed for reburial.
The Police Division was almost overrun by the crow as some ofthem climbed the fence to catch a glimpse of the human parts, which were stuffed in the sack.
The police had ordered the suspect to bring out the content of the sack, which was confirmed to be human parts.
Acvording to a man, who claimed to be a relative of the suspect, body parts were that of the owner of a plot of land in the Arigbawonwo, a community in the area.
The corpse had, allegedly, been buried on the land by his family members, who later sold the land.
The new land owner, it was further alleged had contracted the suspect to exhumed the body.
“The parts were that of the first owner of the land, who had been buried for about 10 years in the land.
“When the land was resold, the new buyer just exhumed the body and threw it somewhere.
“The suspect was contracted to pack and re-bury the remains. He put them in a sack and got a cab to convey him to where he intended to dispose them of.
“The suspicious cab driver raised the alarm.
“They pounced on him because they thought he was a ritual killer.
“He was about to be lynched when the policemen rescued him,” a community leader, who did not want to be named, said.
According the man who claimed to be a relative of the suspect, the suspects didn’t involve the police in the disposal of the corpse as he never thought that the matter would assume any crisis proportion.
“He is my brother. The family of the deceased contracted us to dispose of the body.
“But they didn’t say we needed police clearance,” he added.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the man “was caught with some human parts and was about to be lynched when he was rescued by the police.
“He has been transferred to the Anti-kidnaping and Anti-cultism Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran.
“However, he claimed in his statement that the corpse was that of a relation and he was going to re-bury it when he was caught. He is being investigated.”, the Ogun State Police Spokesman said.
